As a biology student, I aim to gain experience in work and beyond that maintains and develops skills essential to scientific inquiry, like critical thinking and independent learning.

I also strive to advance the personal aspect of my experience via developing communication skills, teamwork, and building a wide variety of professional relationships. I am passionate about pursuing work of all kinds that reaches a broad scope of people and that has extensive implications.

IT Business Analyst Student - Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

May 2019 - present

  • Key team member on a Business Analysis team that oversees the business involvement of the various online portals provided through IRCC programs for applications of all types

  • Independent investigation of completely new topics (immigration, technology, business processes) for full understanding in order to be able to assist team lead in a large project involving these topics

  • Problem solving skills were furthered in order to to be able to identify and comprehend the issues clients have with the systems overseen by this business team and  communicate with them to solve the issue at hand 

  • Creative thinking was encouraged as the only business analysis student on a global scale project for visa applicants to analyze all areas of the solution that can have amplifying effects to clients.  

  • As part of a Business Analyst team and a larger agile team, allowed me to flourish in developing clear, professional communication with team members who have years of experience. As a student, being able to properly address and communicate with employees ranked much higher than I was was an essential skill in succeeding in the workplace.  

Training and Communications Student - Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

​Summer 2018 

  • On the training and communications team, I was delegated the massive task of edited a manual for a software used by thousands of visa officers across the globe 

  • This task required a great understanding of the software used by the visa officers in order to provide them with accurate information and edit the software information

  • As part of a team, fostering good communication among team members and professional communication was key to establishing a positive work environment

  • Attention to detail was crucial in performance during this work term as this 1200 page document contained very specific information about dense topics. Having to read through and edit this document required me to place all available attention into analyzing the information properly

Student Facilitator - Connecting Math To Our Lives and Communities

​2018 - Present

  • Being a student facilitator for this after school math program involved a wide variety of skills to be able to engage and encourage troubled children from around rural Nova Scotia:

    • Proper communication skills like using specific verbal and body language in order to involve students that have difficulties in behaviour as well as academics 

    • Creative thinking was used to be able to transform mathematic information into a completely new presentation aimed at this particular audience that has trouble digesting the information

DEGREE Shadow Program Participant - University of Ottawa

​July 2019 

The DEGREE Shadow Program at OttawaU offered the opportunity to shadow a graduate student in the Faculty of Medicine - Immunology Department. Through this program, I was able to experience labs, procedures and, experimental practices currently being used in a working laboratory.  

 

Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) St.FX - Vice President

September 2019 - Present ​

WISE at St.FX aims to provide a positive space for female students in STEM from all faculties by uniting and connecting them through their common denominator: a passion for science! This is done through event organization, being a source of awareness for related campus events, and bringing female students together. As VP, I aim to provide proper online and outreach communication, organize engaging events, and make connections with society members. 

Canadian Undergraduate Conference On Healthcare - External Ambassador
July 2019 - November 2019 ​

The Canadian Undergraduate Conference On Healthcare (CUCOH) is a conference run by undergraduates at Queen's University and is the largest undergraduate conference in Canada. As the External Ambassador for St.FX, I am responsible for organizing the first ever group of delegates to attend from my institution. This includes, recruitment, fundraising, logistical planning, advertising, and acquiring funds from the school in order to help students afford the trip.

St. Martha's Hospital Emergency Room Volunteer

October 2018 - Ongoing

In the ER, I am responsible for helping patients feel as comfortable as I can during this likely uncomfortable stay at the hospital. I am also there to help the ER staff as much as they need. Main duties over the course of the past year have included: preemptively accommodating patient needs (water, ice, others), acting as  a communication liaison between staff and patient, reinforcing a positive environment, as well as facilitating a smooth process for patients by helping them understand hospital processes and protocol. 

Canadian Cancer Society - Walk Of Hope Organizer 

September 2018

I was the very first student to organize a St.FX Walk of Hope in honour of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. As the sole organizer, I arranged a group of students who fundraised a total of 650$ donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. This task involved strategic advertising, fundraising targets, and organization of: route, logistic, and funds.  

NSERC Student Ambassador Grant Recipient

August 2019 

This 1000$ NSERC grant allows students to put together an event for underrepresented students in STEM. As a successful applicant, I submitted a proposal for an event to be run in March 2020 that involves youth in the rural and remotes area of Guysborough, NS. These students will participate in a mentorship weekend that follows a waterfall style of leadership and teaching based on the proposal I submitted. Creative thinking, dedication, independent learning, and co-operation are only some the attributes required for running this event with success. 

St. FX Honour Roll Scholarship

2019-2020 School year 

This scholarship is awarded to students achieving an average over 80% in the previous school year.
