Student Facilitator for Connecting Math to Our Lives and Communities

Fall 2018-Spring 2019

  • Providing integration of math into the daily lives of Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian children grades K-12 throughout a variety of communities in rural Nova Scotia

  • Facilitating the proper functioning and organization of workshops and activities at a large scale for groups of children on a weekly basis

  • Teaching and implementing skills such as: critical thinking, arithmetic, problem solving, group cooperation, communication, and practical applications of mathematics to real situations for young children

Counselor and Trip Leader Camp Tawingo 

Summer 2015

  • Responsible for the care and well-being of 24 children, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, over the course of 2 months

  • Responsible for providing direction, setting goals, establishing roles and responsibilities

  • Lead Counselor – responsible for a 6 day canoe excursion in Algonquin Park. As Lead Counselor for this excursion, I was responsible for all aspects of trip preparation, including:

    • Developing a travel route covering 50 kilometres of paddling and 12km of portage.

    • Menu development - providing guidance and direction on proper

    • Delegating roles to ensure overnight stays were both safe and enjoyable

  • Acted as the liaison between children and parents and children and Camp Tawingo, as well as provided regular updates to families and the management team at Tawingo

 

Volunteer Experience and Extracurricular Activities

Women In Science and Engineering - Vice President 

Fall 2019-Spring 2020

  • Providing females in STEM with opportunities to connect with one another and foster a positive academically oriented environment 

  • Facilitate communication for the society via social media and on campus 

  • Organize, plan, and implement various events for all females in STEM throughout the school year in hopes of making connections, and building a strong network of STEM focused young women

Saint Martha’s Regional Hospital - ER Volunteer

  • Providing patients with essential services throughout wait times in the Emergency Room to maintain a healthy and safe environment

  • Responsible for providing communication between the hospital nurses, doctors, and staff, and the emergent patients to ensure each patient is cared for to the full extent
